Kurt Gleeson is a member of the Corporate and Finance practice group. He has over 35 years of experience in the real estate industry as both a transactional real estate and land use attorney in the private and federal sectors and as a senior-level operations executive in the residential real estate brokerage industry.
Kurt’s experience includes significant time at two prestigious Washington, D.C. area law firms where he represented real estate developers and lenders in real property transfers, construction and permanent financing, leasing, condominium development and land use matters. He also represented developers and lenders on matters related to distressed real estate and troubled loans, including foreclosures, loan workouts and the restructuring of commercial real estate portfolios.
Kurt served as an Assistant Regional Counsel for the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in the National Capital Region, where he provided counsel to the Public Buildings Service of GSA and to external federal agency clients, including the Department of Defense and the Central Intelligence Agency. His practice at GSA focused on lease and site procurements, lease administration, property management, ethics matters, tort claims, environmental issues and Freedom of Information Act requests. As a result of his legal acumen, Kurt was selected to serve on an executive task force that was responsible for the restructuring of the business lines within the Public Buildings Service.
After relocating to Florida, Kurt worked as an operations executive and managing broker for several national and Florida based brokerage companies and is an expert in launching and leading bricks and mortar and Internet real estate brokerage operations. As the Senior Vice President of the Internet Channel for Carrington Real Estate Services, Kurt was instrumental in launching a platform to generate, distribute and manage Internet leads. He also led the national sales forces at two Internet brokerage companies and held the position of National Vice President of Sales for RealEstate.com, a former division of LendingTree, and Vice President of National Sales for New Homes Realty. Kurt also launched and managed the South Tampa Office of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty where he was instrumental in establishing and growing a presence for the company in the Tampa luxury real estate market.
Kurt joined the firm in 2018 and specializes in a wide variety of transactional matters, including the representation of sellers and buyers in the purchase and sale of commercial, office, industrial, mixed-use and residential real estate, including contract formation, negotiations, due diligence, risk management and dispute resolution; the representation of commercial and residential developers and residential homeowners in land use and governmental permitting issues; the representation of landlords and tenants in commercial and residential leasing transactions; the representation of commercial and residential lenders in the financing of real estate, including acquisition, construction and permanent financing; and the representation of residential and commercial brokerage companies and real estate professionals in ethics, licensing, compliance, franchising, operations matters and dispute resolution.
Kurt graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. degree in Economics from Washington & Jefferson College and earned his J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University Law School, where he was an Associate Managing Editor of the Vanderbilt Law Review. He’s an active member of The Florida Bar and the District of Columbia Bar and is an associate member of the Virginia State Bar.
Kurt is active in community affairs and is a past member of the Advisory Board of Best Buddies Tampa Bay, where he was the Chairperson for the Best Buddies Friendship Walk.
Kurt’s interests include fitness training and distance running and he has competed in over 125 running events, including the Marine Corps, Pittsburgh and Clearwater Marathons.
