Michael L. Shenkman

Overview

Michael L. Shenkman is a litigator based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office. Prior to joining Bailey Glasser, he served as Deputy Counselor to the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court of the United States.  He was also Administrative Director of the Supreme Court Fellows Program.

Michael is an Adjunct Professor at the Georgetown University Law School. Previously, he was a Fellow and Lecturer-in-Law at Columbia Law School, where he designed the school’s federal government externship program in Washington, D.C., and taught the accompanying courses. Michael also has taught political science at Yale College and at the University of California Washington Center.

Michael has served in various capacities with the U.S. Department of Justice, including as Senior Counsel in the Office of Legal Policy, and in staff roles in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. He was a law clerk to Judge Robert L. Wilkins of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, and to Judge Kenneth M. Karas of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.  He was a Supreme Court Fellow in 2013-14.

Michael received his J.D. from Columbia Law School and his A.B. in History from Harvard College.
